Last month, Mark Dorman wrote a fantastic introduction to ismybillfair on Yahoo Finance UK. He says,

“There’s often no valid reason why some people get charged more for broadband, or TV packages or phone use than others.
It’s a bugbear of thousands of consumers; why do some people pay way more than others for exactly the same mobile phone package or energy deal?
How is it that you and your neighbour have the same TV and broadband package but they pay £80 a month less than you?”

Independent research from OFCOM backed up by our researchers at Walnut Unlimited, shows us that people do not want to switch. They simply want to pay a fair price and stay. Through listening to consumers, we've built the first people-powered website in the UK using real people, sharing real bills. By using real bills, we can expose price differences across big businesses, and help you get a fairer deal from your provider without having to switch.

Our director team is made up of Alex Perrin, a former Virgin Media commercial & pricing director, and three other senior figures from within the industry. The concept for ismybillfair came from Alex who has also worked for British Gas and the RAC.

“We’ve been waiting 30 years for this to be addressed – whenever there is a story about an energy supplier upping prices, the immediate reaction is ‘you should all switch’. But why should you? It’s not the only answer – if you’re dissatisfied with the the service, then of course switch.”

Through ismybillfair, we are providing an alternative to the hassle of switching. Alex goes on to say,

“We allow people to see the price they pay compared to other people with the same provider and the same package, we can expose the real price unfairness in the market whereby big providers charge different people different prices for the same thing.”

We are currently focusing on five categories: TV, broadband and home phone; SIM only; energy; car breakdown, and boiler and plumbing cover. It’s free to use ismybillfair, and the process of checking a bill should take no more than 60 seconds. A data extract below shows some of the price disparities on various broadband, phone and TV categories.
